I love to explore the exquisite detail we find in nature and this has drawn me to the study and practice of botanical art: my paintings in this year’s exhibition are of botanical subjects and I hope that, in them, I have captured something of the beauty and complexity of plant life. I am also fascinated by the abstract quality of so-called ‘real’ things in the world around us, from the delicate tracery of a skeleton leaf and the grain of weathered wood to the hues and patterns of rust on a much-used mooring ring. I am interested in texture and light and enjoy the translucence of watercolour, which is my preferred medium. Painting has taught me to look, really look, at things, and has in this way deepened my capacity for wonder.
I have exhibited and sold my work at:

Harbour House, Kingsbridge
The Leading Edge, Ivybridge
