Alison Hannah

Alison Hannah is the founder of The Clay Yard pottery school in Steamer Quay, Totnes.  Alison paints scenes from her visits to Devon landscapes in watercolour and aims to capture the spirit of the people and activities in the space.  Much of her ceramic work features the images either painted directly on the bisque fired pot using underglazes or transferred through the production of a third decal firing.

For Spring ‘24 work Alison has created thrown pots for “The Clay Yard” picnic-ware set of functional stoneware.  She is collaborating with basket-maker Hilary Burns  to create made-to-order hampers.  Using clay mainly quarried Dartmoor, Devon and glazes also used by her classes at the yard, the hamper-ware aims to provide a hand-made and local product with which to enjoy the beautiful Devon outdoors.
