My working life was completely maritime; I have been Master, Mate or crew on boats and ships from a 6ft. Dinghy to a 300,000 ton tanker, including time as a crew member of the Salcombe RNLI lifeboat.
On retirement, about 16 years ago, my wife introduced me to art by getting me to sketch an old, weathered hawthorn tree on Dartmoor. I never looked back and took tuition from various South Devon artists, mostly within the Salcombe Art Club studio. I have made many new friends and have learnt a lot about materials, supports, etc. used in drawing and painting. Today a lot of my artistic efforts are directed towards life drawing and I have converted some of these sketches into oil paintings.
I also attend many courses within the club in the autumn, winter and spring. Most recently I was introduced to egg tempera, a fascinating medium with which I will endeavour to become more familiar.
