I’ve been developing my artwork, in printing and painting, here at Salcombe Art Club over the last eight years.
My experience as a member of The Pressgang Printmakers and participation on selected workshops introduced me to detailed work with woodblock prints, linocuts and collagraphs. Following this I saw an opportunity to combine my interest in photography with etching, and this led to an exploration of photopolymer etching (see details of this process below).
Over the last year I’ve focussed solely on painting, experimenting with various layering techniques in the production of abstract monotypes.
This process involves the transfer of a photographic positive on transparent film which is then etched with light, usually with the use of a lightbox, onto a photosensitive polymer coated steel plate. The plate is then inked and printed in the same way as other techniques with colour elements carefully introduced in a variety of ways before going through the press.
