Janette Jagger

I grew up in Broken Hill, a mining town in the Australian desert, a land of vast empty spaces and hot earthy colours.  I painted in water colours.  How different England was.  Everything was green!  I travelled around the UK by car and hitch-hiked around Europe, especially Spain.

I was travelling and did very little painting, just experiencing everything.  When back in the UK I started painting again, experimenting with oils, acrylics and gouache.  I painted my memories of the desert and Spain but when I moved to Devon with all the holiday makers on the beaches I drifted towards naive painting.  The sky was always blue and the colours bright.  The joys of summer!  I lived for 4 years in Brazil and the colours were so bright,  I loved it.  Now I paint mainly people enjoying the beaches but I am feeling the urge to try something quite different.  I’m not sure where this will lead me.  I also love Cornwall and my travels influence my paintings.
