Ann Yeoman

I was born and grew up on Higher Soar Farm between Bolt Head and Soar Mill Cove but spent most of my working life in Canada, returning ‘home’ to Middle Soar Barns in 2008. Since then I have focused on painting, having greatly benefitted from the teaching of a number of inspiring and talented artists both in Canada and, more recently, ‘back home’ in the South Hams.

I am particularly interested in exploring the exquisite detail we find in nature, which has drawn me to botanical art. However, I am also fascinated by the abstract quality of so-called ‘real’ things in the world around us, from the delicate tracery of a skeleton leaf and the grain of weathered wood to the hues and patterns of rust on a much-used mooring ring. I am interested in texture and light, and enjoy working with the translucence (and unpredictability!) of watercolour. Although watercolour has long been my medium of choice, in the last few years I have been exploring the possibilities and magic of painting in oils. Painting has taught me to look, really look, at things, and so has enabled me to deepen my capacity for wonder.

In the 2025 Salcombe Art Club Exhibition I have four oil paintings of images connected to the sea, and a watercolour of a friend’s freshly harvested onion crop drying on a rack. I hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoyed painting them.

I have exhibited and sold my work at:
