Two workshops from Steve, enrol on either or both. No specific experience required.
Steve has been a watercolour artist and printmaker for some years, specializing mostly in fine-line etchings and simple bold monotypes. His printmaking experience has been transferred to his style of painting in acrylic. This stylistic approach has recently been applied to a contemporary way of painting ‘grisaille’ or monochrome images as a basis either for further development using paint glazing techniques, or simply as dynamic exploration of compositional possibilities. This gives a foundation for more contemporary painting techniques, or as an end in itself.
Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 February 2020, 10 am - 4 pm
This two-day workshop will explore the grisaille method of monochrome painting which means initially developing the image fully in glazes of transparent to opaque greys and from this base personal interpretations can flourish. This lively and fun workshop focuses on the loose early interpretation of the chosen subject, suggested references are black and white photos, allowing for the early marks to find their own direction and potentially change the course of the painting. You will be encouraged to paint a subject you are most interested in as the techniques explored can be used on any subject.
Steve will advise what to bring on enrolment. All paints included and there will be an opportunity to purchase canvases/painting surfaces
Saturday 7 & Sunday 8 March 2020, 10 am - 4 pm
This two-day workshop will continue and extend the previous workshop on the grisaille method of monochrome painting but here we will take the painting into the realm of colour.
we will develop our grisaille painting exploring use of transparent colour glazes and opaque paint. Steve will also be covering the full range of his own varied painting techniques, surface textures and mark making. It isn’t necessary to have done the earlier workshop on the‘grisaille’ approach as we will be covering the technique again
Steve will advise what to bring on enrolment. All paints included, there will be a small charge on the day to cover the variety of mediums used. There will be an opportunity to purchase canvases/painting surfaces.
