I have so enjoyed making new landscape pots using coils of crank clay. I have been exploring and creating dry glazes, lava glaze, impressing shapes and painting the landscape from where I live.
I walk, photograph and sketch ideas into many sketch books, then use the beach combing experience to impress the clay.
The dry glazes that I have created can be built up in layers on the biscuit fired pot, the pots can have multiple firings to get the painterly feel and the right lava glaze bubble.
Having been so involved for many years with the process of burnishing smooth pots and the very technical process of using resist slips while rakuing, I wanted my new work to stand on its own without reference to a long and involved explanation of the process.
