Local Seascapes in Oils – Using the Power of Light (Weekend Workshop)

Join the 2023 overall winner of the Ilminster Open to explore using the power of light in your work to add drama and focus. During this oil painting course, you will learn how to create atmospheric and expressive seascapes. You will learn how to start from a photograph to abstract key elements and add depth to your compositions resulting in your own unique response to the landscape. By playing with the effect of dark and light you will learn how to increase the tonal range in your work and add impact. Annie will demonstrate her approach to oil painting using palette knives, rags, sticks and other materials and share many hard-won lessons on composition and technique. Over the course of the two days you will work on a variety of scales and find what works best for you. Annie is an experienced tutor and will give plenty of hands-on help and discussion time to ensure you walk away with a painting you are truly proud of. So, ​whether you are a complete beginner or an artist looking for a different challenge you are very welcome. Prepared paper, charcoal and tools will be available.
